The Easy Way To Choose The Right Perfume Every Time

It doesn’t seem like choosing a perfume would be all that complicated but there’s a lot more to it than people realize. What works for some people won’t suit others at all so it’s vital that you pick the right scent. A good bottle of perfume is one of the beauty basics that everybody needs and it’s going to be quite expensive if you buy a decent brand, so you don’t have much room for error. If you’re struggling to pick the right perfume, here are some simple tips to help you out.

Understand Scent Families

There are so many different scents out there but they can all be categorised into a couple of different families. Different people are suited to different scent families so you need to understand what they are and how best to use them. Woody, floral, spicy, citrus, and fruity are the main families. If you can work out which family is best suited for you, you can cut out most of the other perfumes and make it a lot easier to choose one. There are also some scents that blend a couple of the families together so don’t worry if you favor one or two over the rest.

Classic Or Modern

The next decision you need to make is whether you’re going to go with a classic scent or something more modern. There are some tried and tested fragrances like the best rose perfume that some people love. But others are more into the newer, more adventurous scents. By deciding whether you want a classic or modern scent, you’ll narrow down the choice even further.

Start With Samples

Perfume is pretty expensive and if you spend a load of money on a bottle, only to realise you’re fed up with it after a couple of weeks you’re going to kick yourself. That’s why it’s always best to start off with samples instead of buying big bottles. Most stores will let you try the fragrance for free while you’re in the store so always try before you buy. You can also get smaller tester bottles that are a lot cheaper. Always start with one of those and then buy a larger bottle once you’re absolutely sure about it.

However, you have to be careful when you’re using samples in the store. You might think that it’s a good idea to try every single one before choosing one, but after about 3 or 4, you won’t be able to tell whether you like it or not. They’ll all blend into one fragrance and if you make a purchase based on that, the perfume you get will be something completely different.

Finally, you need to take your time when you’re testing. Perfumes have lots of layers and notes that come out over time. Spray it and then see what it smells like initially, then give it a minute and go back for another look to make sure you really do like it.

If you take your time with sampling, identify the right scent families for you, and always buy a tester bottle first, you can guarantee that you’ll get a great perfume every time.
