While there is nothing wrong with aging gracefully, premature signs of aging can be problematic in terms of confidence. The good news is there are plenty of effective ways to fight such signs and ensure your skin stays plump, healthy, and supple. Keep reading to find out what they are.
Cut down on exfoliation
Exfoliation is a wonderful way of sloughing off old dead skin and replacing it with newer healthier cells. However, the process of skin regeneration works on a monthly cycle. What this means is, if you exfoliate too much you will repeatedly damage the top layer of skin faster than the new layer can generate, something that isn’t best for your skin health or the way it looks.
With that in mind, exfoliation needs to be limited to once a week, and never be done every day. Be sure to choose an exfoliator that contains natural particles as well, as those made from plastic are awful for the environment.
Use vitamin A
Another way you can fight the signs of premature aging on the skin is to use products that contain vitamin A. Vitamin A is also known as retinol which is a substance to help boost collegian levels and so plump the skin. Indeed, there are many retinol skin benefits to be gained by using such a product including fighting acne and improving skin tone as well as plumpness. Although it is important not to use retinol if you are also using benzoyl peroxide for acne.
Invest in a richer face cream
While lighter face creams may feel better when applying them to the face, once that is richer can help minimize the signs of premature aging. This is because the additional oils it contains will help to compensate for any luck in your own body’s ability to produce oil.
Also, richer creams help hold moisture closer to the skin, and so give it a better chance of being absorbed as well.
Consider your diet
There are many creams, serums, and moisturizers that you can put on your skin to help prevent premature aging, but it’s also important to carefully consider what you eat as well. Indeed, our bodies’ ability to keep our skin supple and healthy is largely derived from the nutritional building blocks that we provide it with in the form of food.
For example, high protein foods such as lean meat, beans, and fish will help your body produce more collagen, which in turn can help your skin stay more elastic. Fruits and vegetables like strawberries and kale are great for this too.
Foods high in vitamin C such as oranges are also great for skin health, and many supplements can be helpful as well. In particular, omega-three supplements can help plump the skin as they are full of essential amino acids.
Always wear an SPF
Sun damage is one of the most common causes of premature aging of the skin. With that in mind, doing all you can to protect your skin from the power of the sun is a very good idea indeed.
Fortunately, several strategies can be used here, the first of which is to stay out of direct sunlight wherever possible, and use sunglasses, even on cloudy days. After all, even if you are squinting slightly because of the brightness of the sun, it will encourage crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles that needn’t be there.
Additionally, always wearing an SPF that blocks both UVA and UVB rays is essential to prevent premature aging. Fortunately, this no longer needs to be a separate step in your morning routine as there are now moisturizers and foundations that contain this protection.
Last of all, if you are looking to reduce the impact of previous sun damage, remember that eating fruits like tomatoes can help here. Although, staying out of the sun altogether is always a better option whenever possible.
Avoid pooling of liquid in your face
There is nothing that can age a face faster than swollen areas of pooled liquid such as under the eyes. Of course, it is possible to help reduce such swellings by not providing an opportunity for them to happen. One way of doing this is to sleep on a slightly raised angle, which means it will be harder for liquid to pool in the face. You may even wish to use a neti pot to help clear out the sinuses which are close to this area, and so encourage better drainage, health, and improve the look of your skin.
